Google is killing its Drive sync 'n' share file locker in two ways.

For users of Google's G Suite customers, death will come as a new desktop application called "Drive File Stream".

File Stream was available last Saturday, which means "Google Drive for Mac / PC has been officially opposed." Old apps are still around but support ends on December 11, 2017. Google says it will be completely closed on March 12, 2018.

An important piece of information that you need to know is that by March 12, 2018, users will need to have their feet on the File Stream application or Google Backup and Sync if they want to see their data.

Why? Because the data you have in Drive does not completely disappear just because the app has the same name will soon die.

Why two confusing ways? Why two apps?

It's probably due to the fact that G Suite users are being directed to the File Stream, but on the other hand they may also choose to use Google's "Backup and Synchronization" app.

Drive File Stream will be available to all G Suite organizations on September 26, 2017. To prepare for this launch, you can now choose a sync solution and turn sync on (or off) for your organization.

How it works

You can also make Drive files available for offline access. These cached files sync back to the cloud when you're online, so the latest version is available on all your devices.

Verify that Drive File Stream will work for your organization. You can use Drive File Stream on these operating systems:

Windows: Windows 7 and up. Windows Server editions are not supported.

Mac: El Capitan (10.11) and up.
